PROTECT Co-Hosts 2011 Research & Industrial Collaboration Conference

On October 13, 2011, PROTECT co-hosted the 2011 Research & Industrial Collaboration Conference (RICC), with a focus on Research to Reality (R2R).  This was the 12th annual RICC, and the second that PROTECT has participated in.

PROTECT PI/co-Director Prof. Alshawabkeh worked with Prof. Silevitch to bring together a slate of presentations around the theme of “Environmental Health Applications – Research Transition to Technology and Policy” – one of three sessions presented.  Within the Environmental Health session there were presenters from PROTECT and the Columbia, Brown and Harvard SRP Centers – as well as industry speakers from CDM, GeoInsight and the Brown University Tech Transfer Office.  A joint keynote by NIEHS SRP Program Manager Heather Henry and EPA Technology and Innovation Acting Director Jeff Heimerman preceded the session.   The session was extremely well-attended, with nearly 100 people registered from government, industry and academia. Students were also well-represented; there were 10 posters presented by PROTECT trainees in the student poster session on the afternoon of the RICC.  During the poster session, they interacted directly with professionals in their field, representing the research and educational components of PROTECT to a wider audience.
