Project 1 Leader Prof. John Meeker has been appointed Associate Chair of the UMichigan School of Public Health’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences.  From the entire PROTECT team – our congratulations to John!

Excerpts from the announcement below:

Professor Meeker has had a stellar career, receiving his doctoral degree in Environmental Health Sciences from the Harvard School of Public Health in 2004 and, since coming to the University of Michigan in 2005, generating a remarkably high-impact high-volume record research focusing on exposure science/assessment and the potential impacts on reproductive and developmental outcomes of emerging contaminants of concern, particularly environmental endocrine disrupting compounds (EDCs).

His work exemplifies cross-disciplinary research, involving collaborations with faculty in our Toxicology, Human Nutrition and Environmental Epidemiology programs as well as other units.  Professor Meeker has also been remarkably successful in the classroom, creating a brand new and highly-rated course on “Advanced Exposure Assessment” and co-leading, with 3 other EHS faculty, the development and this year’s inaugural launch of the new multi-disciplinary case-based EHS core curriculum course, EHS-601.

He also mentors a host of doctoral and masters students, co-directs the Industrial Hygiene program, and provides national and international service for a wide variety of expert panels and scientific journals.
