Phil BrownPhil Brown, Research Translation Core Leader and Community Engagement Core Co-Leader, recently accepted an invitation to join the Scientific Advisory Panel of the Breast Cancer Fund, a leading environmental health organization. The Breast Cancer Fund’s mission is to prevent breast cancer by eliminating exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease.  In developing its educational outreach and policy advocacy, the Breast Cancer Fund is committed to grounding its work in the latest scientific information relevant to our understanding of the complex relationships between environmental factors and breast cancer.  The Breast Cancer Fund has contributed significant scientific work on breast cancer and the environment, including itsbreast cancer fund State of the Evidence (revised in 6 print editions and now digital) which is an excellent review of research on environmental factors in breast cancer.  The Breast Cancer Fund supported Sandra Steingraber’s essential review of research on early puberty, which is associated with breast cancer risk. They have conducted important research with Silent Spring Institute on how to reduce BPA and phthalate exposure, published in Environmental Health Perspectives. They are a founder of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, and are active in many environmental health coalitions.
