Biography

Dr. David Jewett is a hydrogeologist with over 30 years of site characterization and subsurface remediation experience in government, industry, and academia. Dr. Jewett is the Chief of the Subsurface Remediation Branch (SRB) in the EPA/ORD National Risk Management Research Laboratory’s (NRMRL) Ground Water and Ecosystems Restoration Division (GWERD). Dr. Jewett also is the project lead for ORD’s Sustainable & Healthy Communities Research Program’s Contaminated Sites Project (SHC Project 3.61). As the Chief of the SRB and the project lead for SHC 3.61, Dr. Jewett leads teams of geochemists, environmental scientists, environmental engineers, hydrogeologists, microbiologists, and soil scientists in research and technical support activities related to site characterization and remedial technology development, evaluation, and implementation. The goal of these research and technical support activities is to protect and restore ground water, surface water, and ecosystem resources at hazardous waste sites throughout the Nation.

Dr. Jewett’s research interests include site characterization techniques, contaminant fate and transport, ground-water flow and solute transport modeling, and ground-water/surface-water interactions. He is a member of the EPA’s National Remedy Review Board.  Dr. Jewett was the acting Division Director for the NRMRL/GWERD prior to returning to his current duties. Before accepting the position of Chief of the NRMRL/GWERD/SRB, Dr Jewett was a research hydrologist focusing on applied research and technical support. He also was the Director of EPA’s Center for Subsurface Modeling Support.

Dr. Jewett holds a B.S. in geology from Syracuse University, an M.S in geology from Wichita State University, and a Ph.D. in Hydrology from the Department of Hydrology and Water Resources at the University of Arizona. Prior to joining EPA, Dr. Jewett was on the faculty of the Department of Geology at Indiana University Purdue University Indianapolis.
