PROTECT is proud to announce that Marvic Carmona de Jesus has been awarded a K.C. Donnelly externship! Mr. Carmona is a graduate student at the University of Puerto Rico, Mayagüez, working towards his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering with a concentration in Environmental and Water Resources Engineering. His adviser, Prof. Ingrid Padilla, leads PROTECT’s Project 4 (Dynamic Transport and Exposure Pathways of Phthalates and TCE in Karst Groundwater Systems).
During his externship, Marvic will be working with Prof. Kim Anderson, Principal Investigator of the Oregon State University Superfund Research Program (SRP) in the Environmental and Molecular Toxicology Department. His project is entitled “Intense Training with Passive Sampler Devices for Deployment and Sampling of Spring Water in the Northern Karst Aquifer of Puerto Rico.” While at OSU, he will have access to Prof. Anderson’s unique PSD technologies and methods, as well as the opportunity to learn new laboratory techniques that can be applied to detect, monitor, and quantify the contamination problems on the global scale. His work with PROTECT and OSU will prepare Marvic to be a transdisciplinary leader in the field of environmental engineering, hydrology and remediation.
