We are proud to announce that PROTECT has won The People’s Choice Award at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) 14th Community Involvement Training Conference, held on August 4 – 6, 2015, in Atlanta, Georgia. This dynamic conference brought together more than 450 participants from the EPA and the Agency’s partners and stakeholders who plan and implement environmental community involvement, partnership, stewardship, outreach, and education programs. The conference provided a platform for all parties to discuss successes and obstacles, as well as an opportunity to cultivate cross-program/cross-agency relationships.

The Award was the result of a successful interaction between conference participants and PROTECT’s Core C Director Dr. Liza Anzalota, Core F Co-Leader Dr. Carmen Velez and trainee Colleen Murphy (University of Puerto Rico – School of Public Health) during the Eco Café session. The Eco Café was held to give the participants a hands-on opportunity to learn about different community involvement tools and resources. The PROTECT team presented PROTECT community engagement activities and communicated with the audience about the influence of contaminants on preterm birth and adverse pregnancy outcomes.

Congratulations PROTECT team!
