Dr. Vélez Vega at the 2016 Consortium of Universities for Global Health
Dr. Carmen M. Vélez Vega, Community Engagement Core Co-Leader, presented research findings at the 2016 Annual Consortium of Universities for Global Health Conference. The Conference, held from April 9th to 11th in San Francisco, focused on sustainable solutions to global health issues.
Dr. Vélez Vega presented the results from a study completed in collaboration with the CDC Global and Territorial Global Health Research Network, the University of Rochester, and PROTECT. The study was conducted with PROTECT participants and their partners, and investigated their opinions, experiences and knowledge on clinical and genomic research. In addition, the study examined participants’ preferences regarding community engagement and research translation methods and strategies.
PROTECT will use these findings to report back study results to participants and the general public, ensuring that participants receive the information that is most important to them in an accessible format. In 2016, PROTECT also welcomed two PROTECT participants to the Community Engagement Advisory Board, in order to solicit feedback on the best ways to provide information to our cohort of current and former participants.
