On September 27th, 2016, PROTECT Project 4 trainees Vilda Rivera and Norma Torres presented at the 43rd International Association of Hydrogeologists (IAH) Congress in Montpellier, France. The talk by Rivera and Torres, “Monitoring and Assessment of Anthropogenic Contaminant Distributions in Karst Systems” was a part of the Karst Aquifers Session being held at the conference. The trainees focused on the effect different types of contamination sources have on karst aquifers, on the hydrogeological properties of karst, and on the dispersal of contamination in eogenetic-karst aquifers.
In addition to focusing on karst, the Congress included discussion on topics such as groundwater modelling, groundwater for sustainable water supplies, groundwater and energy resources, hydro-geophysics, and much more. The IAH is a worldwide organization founded in 1956 which aims to “further the understanding, wise use and protection of groundwater resources throughout the world.” The scientific and professional association has over 4100 members in 125 countries.
