Brown featured in NIEHS “Grantee Highlights” Archive for work with PROTECT

A National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences (NIEHS) post titled, “Understanding Community Awareness and Actions on Environmental Health Issues,” highlights the work of Dr. Phil Brown, director of the Research Translation Core (RTC) and co-director of the Community Engagement Core (CEC) for PROTECT and co-director of the Community Outreach and Translation Core (COTC) of CRECE. The piece was posted on September 5th, 2017 in the NIEHS Partnerships for Environmental Public Health (PEPH) “Grantee Highlights” archive and especially focuses on Brown’s passion for incorporating social sciences into the field of environmental health and expanding collaborations between experts in these disciplines. The piece also delves into Brown’s interest in studying per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances as well as his efforts to communicate scientific research on environmental toxins to impacted communities.

His community engagement and translation efforts with PROTECT and CRECE have been extensive, ranging from educating speech-language pathologists about the effects environmental toxins can have on early childhood development to helping to develop a smartphone app which will allow study participants to access data from the research they’ve participated in.
