In May 2018, PROTECT Project 4 researcher Dorothy Vesper was elected as a Geological Society of America Fellow. New GSA Fellows are nominated by existing Fellows in recognition of their contributions to the field of geoscience, and are elected during the spring GSA Council meeting. Dr. Vesper was nominated by Madeline Schreiber of Virginia Tech “for her outstanding contributions to applied research in karst hydrogeology and geochemistry, training and professional development of students, and professional leadership within the karst and hydrogeology community.”

Among other achievements, Dr. Vesper developed the “Karst, Groundwater Contamination, & Public Health Moving Beyond Case Studies Conference” in San Juan, Puerto Rico in January 2016. The conference represented a collaboration between PROTECT and the Karst Waters Institute. A book of the papers presented at the conference, Karst Groundwater Contamination and Public Health, was published by Springer International Publishing in 2018.

Congratulations, Dorothy!
