PROTECT Project 5 Continues Partnership with e.THROUGH Project: Welcoming Professor Juan Manuel Paz, Celebrating the Research of Eduardo Mateus & Alexandra Ribeiro

Oct 18, 2018 | Project 4 (Green Remediation), PROTECT Team

Juan Manuel Paz is Assistant Professor at the University of Malaga (UMA), Spain. He obtained his PhD at the Technical University of Denmark and performed postdoctoral research in different institutions in Denmark, the Netherlands and Sweden. He also was research scholar at Northeastern University for 5 months in 2011, so we are happy to have him back with us again! Nowadays, Juan Manuel teaches in the Chemical Engineering BSc and MSc degrees and carries out research on the fields of electrokinetic remediation of soils and construction materials as well as secondary batteries technology. Juan Manuel’s expertise is on developing mathematical and numerical models for reactive-transport processes.

Juan Manuel will be working through October with Professor Akram Alshawabkeh on a collaboration with PROTECT Project 5 on modelling advanced critical raw materials recovery and further reuse of residues in construction materials. This continued collaboration represents Northeastern University’s participation in the European Horizon 2020 Program, and partnership on the “Thinking Rough Towards Sustainability” (e.THROUGH) Project led by recent visiting scholar, Professor Ribeiro of FCT NOVA.

Professors Eduardo Mateus and Alexandra Ribeiro are the most recent visiting scholars from the Center for Environmental and Sustainability Research (CENSE),  Faculty of Science and Technology, NOVA University of Lisbon (FCT NOVA) in Portugal that we have had the pleasure of hosting at Northeastern University. They worked with Professor Akram Alshawabkeh and the PROTECT Center for the past few months on advanced critical raw materials recovery and further reuse of residues in construction materials.

Thank you, Professors Mateus, Ribeiro, and Paz for your continued collaboration with the PROTECT Center!
