In May, seven PROTECT trainees completed their degrees and graduated from their academic programs. Meaghan Rea, Ellie Holmes, Tiffany Russell, Krisyalie Morales, Chloe Burjak, and Darshan Chudasama completed their Master of Public Health degrees, and Lysmarie Santos completed her PhD. Each of these now former trainees has lined up the next steps for their career.

Project 2 and University of Michigan graduates Meaghan, Ellie, and Tiffany are continuing to work with PROTECT under the mentorship of Sean Harris and Kelly Bakulski this summer as they work to publish their theses. Come this fall, Meaghan will be starting as a PhD candidate in Michigan’s Department of Environmental Health Sciences, Ellie will be pursuing a job in public health and epidemiology, and Tiffany will be starting a new job on Michigan’s campus.

Chloe and Darshan worked with the Human Subjects and Sampling Core at University of Georgia under the leadership of José Cordero. Chloe is now interning with the Department of Public Health in the Pathogen Genomic Center of Excellence. This fall, Darshan will begin his pursuit for a Medical Doctor degree at the Medical College of Georgia.

University of Puerto Rico, Medical Sciences Campus graduate Krisyalie and University of Puerto Rico Mayagüez PhD Lysmarie will continue to work with PROTECT. Krisyalie is now working as a research staff member in the PROTECT call center, while Lysmarie is continuing to work in the Project 3 labs at Mayagüez.
